Chipping Norton's Baptist Church's New Street site has been a centre for Christian worship since 1733 when a meeting house for Protestant Dissenters was established. In 1775 it became a Baptist Chapel and this building was extended in 1816/7. In 1861/2 what is now the main church was built and the original building became the church hall. Around this time William Bliss II, who owned the town's large woollen mill, was one of the worshippers and he contributed significantly to the cost of building the new church. Since then the Church has supported, and continues to support, both the Baptist and the wider local communities.
